Carbon Dioxide  [ Return to  Standard gases  ]

Result of the combination of the carbon and the oxygen, the CO2 is produced by various processes: combustion of coal and hydrocarbons, fermentation of liquids, and breath of the humans and the animals.

The gaseous CO2 has a slightly irritating smell, is colorless and heavier than the air.

It freezes at -78.5°C and forms the dry ice.

It intervenes in a lot applications:

  • carbonation of carbonated drinks;
  • draft beer;
  • food freezing;
  • transport under controlled temperature;
  • protection of welds against oxidation;
  • carbonic snow for fire extinguishers;
  • pH controls and regulation of wastewaters;
  • pools, etc.
